In pursuit of its advocacies for peace and the right of people to peace in the contemporary society, the United Nations – Polac, Akwa Ibom State, has inaugurated its Fellowship Executives.
Addressing the participants at the 2015 United Nations Volunteers Day, held last weekend in Uyo, the Chairman on the occasion, Dr. Effiong Joseph charged the participants on the need to embrace the virtue of hope, stressing that nothing can be achieved in life without the engagement of this virtue.
Effiong drew his premise from the Book of Ecclesiastic chapter nine verses four, stressing that to him that is joined with the living there is hope, maintaining that faith cannot work without hope. He drew an analogy between faith and hope, saying that both could be looked upon as husband and wife that produced an off-spring, called ‘good report’.
The Special Adviser, UN-Polac, Ibeno urged them to always be anticipated while aiming of achieving anything in life. According to him, whatever one’s set to achieve in life must first be conceived in the mind before it can materialized physically.
He said that global peace is what they are envisaging and challenged participants to see the actualization of this first in their mind before the world start to experience this peace.
In his remarks, the Director General of United Nations-Polac, Dr. Halo Eton, said that UN-Polac is a network of peace advocates, who stand on a common ground of shared principles, committed to the path of building and promoting peace in the society.
Eton urged the participants to be dedicated to building and promoting a long lasting peace in which everyone can live in freedom, harmony and cooperation, stressing that to achieve these members must live above the pursuit of self-interest in recognition of their common humanity.
He said that mankind is longing for goodness, life’s deepest meaning and purpose hence; these can be found through the pursuit of this essential, yet intangible attribute of life, which he said is peace. The Director General enjoined all to be good ambassadors of peace in their daily life.
There were also paper presentation at the event, where Rev. Prof. Udoudo Odiong presented a paper on the topic “In Time like This: A Challenge of UN-Polac Peace Association in Nigeria”, followed by another paper presentation, which was presented on the theme: “Positive Livelihood: A Sure Way to Global Peace”, by Elder Emmanuel Eduongo.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of Award to deserving members, as well as appointment of some members into the offices of ‘Ambassador for Peace’ and that of ‘justice of Peace’.
