A chairmanship aspirant in the yet-to-be announced Local Government elections in ONNA Local Government Area, Mr. Akan Gibson has promised to resist by all available might within him, any attempt by anybody to impose any other aspirant on the people.
Gibson, who is seeking to chair the ONNA council on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is said to be a staunch supporter of the state Governor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.
The Ikot Edor-born politician who was reacting, following alleged attempt by the Paramount Ruler of ONNA His Eminence, Akwa Edidem (Dr.) Akpabio Udo Ukpa to impose on the people of the area his preferred aspirant, Mr. Godwin Oton, noted that only the people’s will shall prevail in the forth- coming council polls.
Our reporter, who monitored Gibson addressing the people of Ikot Edor recently after meeting with the Paramount Ruler, quoted him as saying that the Monarch was asking him to step down for his preferred candidate, Godwin Oton.
“When the Paramount Ruler asked me to step down for his candidate, I told him that I will not step down. The reason I said that I will not step down is because I am not the one that chose myself. It was ONNA, the youths, the women and the elders of ONNA who chose me. I told him that I am the popular candidate and that I am the one who campaigned for the governor (Udom Emmanuel)”.
Our paper also gathered that Godwin Oton who has vowed to cling the ONNA chairmanship stool, had played a vital role during the election of Udom Emmanuel in the area.
